ALC calculator
Work out your absolute lymphocyte count (ALC) from your white blood cell count and the % lymphocytes on a CBC differential — the number that matters more than the percentage. Values in ×10⁹/L (= ×10³/µL).
Your privacy: this calculator runs entirely in your browser — nothing you type is sent anywhere. It's the same on-device principle Quanome is built on.
Educational reference only — not medical advice. A persistently abnormal ALC — low or high — is interpreted by a clinician with your full blood count. Reference ranges vary by lab.
## What ALC numbers mean
| ALC | Band |
| --- | --- |
| > 4.0 ×10⁹/L (> 4,000 /µL) | High — lymphocytosis (often viral response; repeat when well) |
| 1.0–4.0 ×10⁹/L (1,000–4,000 /µL) | Normal adult range |
| 0.8–1.0 ×10⁹/L (800–1,000 /µL) | Mildly low — common during/after infection, stress, steroids |
| 0.5–0.8 ×10⁹/L (500–800 /µL) | Clearly low — worth an explanation if persistent |
| < 0.5 ×10⁹/L (< 500 /µL) | Significantly low — review if persistent (infection-risk territory) |
The most common reason for a low-looking lymphocyte line is the **stress seesaw**: cortisol temporarily moves lymphocytes out of the blood while raising neutrophils — one process, not two problems, and the rested repeat usually normalises it. ## The formula
- **ALC = WBC × % lymphocytes ÷ 100**
- The WBC is the same number in ×10⁹/L or ×10³/µL, so the ALC comes out the same; this tool shows both ×10⁹/L and cells/µL.
- **Absolute beats percentage**: a low lymphocyte *percentage* with a normal absolute count is usually just high neutrophils doing the maths.

## Track your blood counts over time — privately
A single ALC is a snapshot; the value is in the **trend**. [Quanome](/) pulls your labs, Apple Health, and even your DNA into one private timeline on your device — parsed locally, never uploaded — with an AI coach that reads your CBC over time.
